Small furnace used for smelting galena (lead-silver ore) at Cerro Gordo. Probably from Cerro Gordo's Mexican period, although the end plate indicates it was manufactured in Los Angeles or San Francisco. Now housed in the restored assay office. In front of the furnace (at bottom of photo) are some chunks of brick that formed the interior walls of a furnace — glazed dark blue/black on one side, sandy yellow on the other
