22 - Kalispell, Montana into Canada

with visit to Kaslo, BC then on to Shelter Bay en route to Revelstoke, BC

After re-supplying, drove north on US 93 into British Columbia, Canada at Roosville, then north and west on CN 93 and CN 3 to Cranbrook, BC where I converted $100 US to $136.85 CN at the bank.

Continued west on CN 3 to Creston and checked out the Creston Valley Wildlife area. Not the best time of year for wildlife but saw a muskrat along the visitor center board walk and some herons and ducks on nearby Duck Lake. It was a little cloudy and sprinkly but not bad.

Continued west on CN 3 then north on CN 6 through Salmo, BC and Nelson, BC to Kokanee Creek Provincial Park Campground.

Saturday, August 30, 1997

Turned into a nice day as I drove north on CN 3A and CN 31 to Kaslo, BC where they have one of the paddlewheel steamers that worked the lake on display - S.S. Moyie. It's in good shape and a very interesting tour. Worth seeing.

Continued west on CN 31A to New Denver, BC with a quick side trip to Sandon, BC, a gold mining ghost town - but, mostly privately owned and kind of touristy.

Saw the New Denver glacier as I approached the town. This is a land of MONSTER lakes and mountains.

Continued north on CN 6 to Nakusp, BC, north on CN23 to the Galena Bay Ferry Crossing. Rode the Ferry across the lake to Shelter Bay. The small Blanket Creek Campground was here so - given the long Labour Day weekend, decided to make camp early.
