Olmstead Point (upper right on map) on the Tioga Pass Road offers an excellent view of the northwest side of Half Dome (lower left on map), about 5.5 miles away as a bird flies. It is possible to hike to the top of Half Dome .. there is a set of cables that serve as hand rails for the part on steep granite (see red line in photo).
